Meetup Club is a place-based community for members. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the least we can to make the community work, we don't sell your data, and we never store or show where you live.
What we collect
- Your email — when you RSVP to a gathering or light a Beacon. We use it to hold your spot, recognize you when you come back, and tell you if something you joined changes. An account materializes quietly from it — there's no form to fill in.
- Your name and profile — the display name and any headline, links, or interests you choose to share. Your profile is private by default; you decide what appears in the members directory.
- What you tell the Concierge — the messages you send it, and the things it remembers to help you (your goals, what you're building). This memory is consented, and you can ask the Concierge to show, change, or forget any of it at any time.
- Your activity — Beacons you create, your RSVPs, messages you post in a gathering's green room, and a log of meaningful interactions we use to keep the community working and to make it better over time.
- Sign-in credentials — if you set up a passkey, we store its public key (we never see a password) and a one-way hash of your session token. That's it.
- Notification subscriptions — only if you opt in to reminders.
What we never collect
- Your precise or home location. It is never stored and never shown to anyone — this is a core safety rule, not a setting. Gatherings happen at public venues.
- Passwords. Sign-in is passwordless.
- Advertising or cross-site trackers. We don't run them, and we don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
About the AI
The Concierge is powered by a large language model. To answer you, the messages you send it are passed to our model provider, OpenRouter, which processes them to generate a reply. They are the only outside company that handles your content — everything else (your account, the database, sign-in, files) runs on our own servers. We do not use your conversations to train public AI models.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in (it's encrypted-in-transit, HTTP-only, and same-site). If you install the app, a service worker stores assets so it works offline. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use what we collect
- To run the service and let the Concierge actually help you.
- To send notifications you asked for — and only those. We default to silence and only reach out when something clears a real relevance bar.
- To keep people safe and enforce our Code of Conduct.
- To understand and improve the community for the people in it.
Your choices
- Ask the Concierge to show, edit, or delete anything it remembers about you.
- Choose what's public on your profile — it starts fully private.
- Turn notifications off at any time.
- Request a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing [email protected]. (Self-serve export and deletion are on the way.)
Keeping your data
We keep your information while your account is active. When you ask us to delete it, we remove your personal data, keeping only what we're required to for safety or legal reasons.
Young people
You must be at least 13 to use Meetup Club. If you're under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian's awareness — our child-safety rules always apply.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and we'll surface anything significant rather than bury it.
